Tool Pyramid (Printed Plan)

Are you looking for organizing ideas for garage? I'm glad you are on the lookout for garage storage and organizing systems. That's because the garage is such an easy room to overload yet can be so valuable to our homes.

What does your garage look like now? Is it a huge dumping ground? Is it reasonably clutter-free but you'd like some more suggestions for a garage organizing system? Would you like to transform your garage into an extra room?

Whatever your situation is, I think the organizing ideas for garage below will assist you in any stage you are in. If your garage is a complete disaster or if you only need some tweaking.

I want you to get at least one organizing idea for garage that will really improve the room. By the way, when I say garage organizing system, it sounds more complicated than it is. All I mean to say is that if you need your rakes and lawn equipment organized, take care of that with a stand-up rake holder. Voila', your garage organizing system.

Let's figure out how we can do this. What does your garage look like now?

Organizing Ideas for Garage

First things first. Family members often have differing ideas as to where things belong. Discuss with each person what their ideas for the garage are. That way you'll have their full participation and involvement. You wouldn't want to go through the fun of following a decorative / organizing idea only to have your spouse dump the broken toaster in there.

Create your floor plan.

What zones need to go in the garage? Remember the garage may get hot in the summer and cold in the winter. So you won't want to keep heirlooms, antiques, movies, pictures, tapes, or slides in the garage.

What can you keep in the garage? Out of season clothing, sports equipment, gardening equipment, cleaning supplies.

As far as flammable items, that depends on how hot your garage gets. Or what you are going to turn your garage into. Are you a smoker? If you'd like to smoke in the garage, forget flammable substances. Very important to think about before garage organizing and storage takes place

So, make a list of all the types of activities that will be stored in the garage. Skiing, gardening, camping, automotive, baby storage, etc.

Then make a list of what supplies are needed for each activity. This list can get long but my organizing ideas for garage to you is to make this list as long as it needs to be. That will make the garage organizing and storage part easy. You won't have to keep running back and forth to the store because of wrong purchases. Know what supplies you have by looking around and listing them next to the activity zone.

Now ask yourself where you are going to store the items.

Do you need to build shelves? Can you hang this up on the wall or ceiling? This is where choosing the garage organizing system comes in.

In a garage, you definitely want to take advantage of wall and ceiling space. Try whenever possible to not put things on the floor. You need your garage floor space for the car. You also need a path to wheel out the lawn mower or if your kids are going to ride their bikes out of the garage.

That's why you are going to want to store things as much as possible on the ceiling or on the wall. Check this organizing idea for garage, it is a ready made product to fix your garage walls and lets you hang things directly from the walls click here for storewall

- Heavy Lift

- Tool Organizer - Wall Mounted

- Gravity Bike Rack

- Store-N-Slide – Sliding Organizer Rack

-Hang mesh bags to corral balls, jump ropes, helmets, bats, toys.

-Use hooks whenever possible. For heavy items like golf equipment or gardening tools, suspend a chain with S hooks from the rafters and hang your equipment right off of the chain.

-Hang a closet rod (or rope) from the ceiling and you can hang life jackets, wetsuits, hula hoops or water tubes from the closet rod.

-Use laundry baskets for easy pickup. Baseball bats, knee pads, helmets. You can even keep a basket in the car so if you need to stop somewhere, your kids can get their scooter and helmet on and wheel while they wait.

-Because garages can be damp, use plastic storage bins and keep them on plastic shelves. You want to elevate things and keep them off of the actual floor.

-If you do not currently have shelves or storage in your garage, you can make your own! Use cinder blocks or bricks and plywood boards. What you do is stack 1-2 cinder blocks on either side and then put a board on top. Do this about 3 more times until you get to a height of about 4 feet. I've seen this done with bricks as well.

- Work Bench

-Make sure you create a path for all the tools that are large and need to be wheeled out of the garage. If you decide to turn your garage into another kind of room and do not want to keep your lawn mower in it anymore, use a Modular Storage Shed - 8' Wide and keep it in the shed.

-Is your man creative and very active in his sports? Let him have fun suspending a fishing net to hold the fishing supplies from the ceiling or mounting an open tent above the rafters with camping supplies. He may even want to camp out here :)

Decorating and organizing ideas for garage

-*Fun organizing ideas for garages* Repaint your garage to make it look great. Use a paint with a mildew-proof sealant. Add a lot of lighting to the garage. If it looks nice, you'll keep it nice.

-Paint the floor with a sealant to cover the concrete. The coating will protect the floor from oil and other fluids.

How to actually start decluttering the garage

-Have your supplies on hand. Garbage bags, barrels, recycling bins, paper, pen, a table for sorting, refreshments.

-Call a hauler before you even start sorting. You are going to have a lot of junk that needs to be hauled away. Start sorting and purging the largest items that way the hauler can come early on the job.

You want to feel immediate satisfaction don't you? Get rid of the big stuff first and you'll feel so good. The little stuff you can drive out to the goodwill.

-Give yourself double the amount of time you think it will take to finish the decluttering job. Garages can take a day or too.

-As you remove things from your garage, put like things together. All of the old paper material in one pile. Appliances in another. Baby stuff in another. You are not going to want to go back and sort later.

-If you come across home fix it or decorating projects you haven't finished yet, make a note of what they are and put them aside. You don't want to start working on little things right now.

-Check the weather forecast before you start!

Follow this list for what to get rid of along with the other organizing ideas for garage

old newspapers

old baby furniture- it's not safe anymore. Don't give it away.

Something that cannot be fixed-the toaster and lawn mower.

Rusted, mildewed, or weather damaged things.

Old Paint cans-however, a lot of haulers will not take these items. If not, use the paint to make art for your new garage room!

Don't trash your old computers- donate them to charity. Call a charity to come pick up curbside.

I know it may be hard to part with the items. All you can do is give yourself a chance to say goodbye. Then, think though of how good you will feel with a brand new organized garage.

I think you are going to notice huge burdens lifted off of you and your home when your garage is decluttered.

Congratulations! You've followed organizing ideas for garage, planned what your zones are for garage organizing and storage areas, and listed what you will need by way of a garage organizing system (Use the list above for more suggested garage organizing products.)
